This position may be located in Urbandale, IA, Moline, IL, Cary, NC or Fargo, ND per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency. 

 

Overview and Responsibilities

 

As the Senior Embedded Software Systems Engineer working on a hybrid basis on our Embedded OS team within John Deere's Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG), you will be at the cutting edge of autonomous agriculture technology.

Moreover, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing core infrastructure components and solutions for John Deere's automation and autonomy projects. You will be expected to leverage your software development expertise and knowledge of embedded systems to drive breakthrough developments in autonomous precision agriculture solutions.

You will also be involved with:

  • Designing and implementing core infrastructure components and solutions to support our automation and autonomy product line
  • Driving integration and software development activities around infrastructure systems (embedded operating systems, reprogramming, networks, and diagnostics) into John Deere products
  • Providing technical leadership and overseeing the development of proofs-of-concept and technologies
  • Supporting first adopters on the application of new core technologies
  • Participating in and driving design reviews with peers and stakeholders to choose new technologies
  • Triaging product and system issues through debugging and tracking
  • Resolving system issues by analyzing the source and its impact on hardware and software

What Skills You Need

 

  • 5+ years of expertise with developing software in one or more programming languages
  • 3+ years of experience working with embedded operating systems
  • 3 years of experience with embedded communication protocols on hardware topologies such as CAN, ethernet, and LIN
  • A track record of collaborating and communicating effectively

  • Product development experience pertaining to high-power electrical systems
  • A history of working cross-functionally to understand customer needs and how they can be translated into software requirements and implementations
  • Willingness to grow your skill set and contribute to an evolving team
  • Keen interest in developing autonomous solutions to solve customer problems
  • Exposure to or knowledge of John Deere's precision agriculture products and

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other engineering discipline
