Your Responsibilities


As an Electrical Engineer – Embedded Controls for John Deere’s Turf and CUTs business unit, located in Cary NC, Augusta, GA or Horicon, WI,  you will be part of the team responsible for the development of electronic modules and components for Utility Vehicles, Turf Equipment, and Compact Utility Tractors. In addition, you will:


  • Apply engineering rigor, attention to detail and perseverance in the definition and development of embedded hardware and software controls. Define and develop interfaces and electronic communication busses.
  • Engage with unit and enterprise groups (e.g., embedded SW, advanced R&D, etc.), and external suppliers to develop components & support system integration activities.
  • Develop and maintain system, hardware, and software product requirements documents.
  • Collaborate with other teams to create and execute validation plan activities including design reviews, DFMEA, simulations, lab, field and compliance testing.
  • Support other organizations like Factory Automation, Product Validation and Verification (PV&V) , Product Quality and Supply Management.

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences)


  • 3 or more years of demonstrated skills & knowledge in product development in one or more of the following areas:  electronic hardware/component design, embedded SW design, vehicular communication busses (e.g.  CAN, J1850), electrification / hybrid vehicle development
  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience troubleshooting embedded electronic controls issues utilizing electronic instrumentation
  • 1 or more years of experience in certain John Deere specific systems like VNSM (CAN bus definitions database), JDCP (vehicle records) or GFPT (Factory Programming tool)

  • Provide clear concise oral/written communication. Ability to collaborate, coordinate and assign work to others
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively, working in multiple critical projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to break complex opportunities/issues/obstacles down into executable action items
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 5% of the time

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)


  •  Experience with electrical/electronic hardware development for outdoor applications, automotive or off-highway mobile equipment
  • Experience with developing or troubleshooting powertrain electronic controls, electronic fuel injection or other engine/transmission controls,
  • Experience with CAN bus troubleshooting, data capture and analysis tools
  • Experience with li-ion batteries, battery chargers and / or electric drives
  • Experience with battery-electric or hybrid vehicle development
  • Experience with systems engineering practices like Design for Six Sigma, Design of Experiments, House of Quality, Pugh Selection, etc. (L)
  • Experience in validation and verification of software in simulation environments such as HIL or benchtop stands.
  • Ability to work off-shift hours, as needed, to support overseas suppliers (1h-2h/ week)
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering 



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering
