John Deere is seeking engineers to help develop lithium-ion battery solutions.  John Deere sees demand growing for batteries as a sole- or hybrid-propulsion system for vehicles. Products in Deere’s portfolio such as turf equipment, compact utility tractors, small tractors, compact construction, and road building equipment could rely solely on batteries as a primary power source. Your Responsibilities


As a Senior Battery Systems Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Cary, NC, you will….


  • Develop system, component, and sub-component specifications for the various elements of energy storage systems including functional, performance, safety, and compliance requirements
  • Execute analyses of potential designs, including electrical capability, battery life, thermal, isolation/creepage and clearance, etc
  • Support the development of an efficient energy storage solution strategy - including batteries, controls, and associated hardware
  • Lead data analysis activities and interpretation related to battery field performance to guide requirements development and product improvements

What Skills You Need


  • 5 or more years’ experience in product development
  • 3 or more years’ experience leading technical projects
  • 2 or more years’ experience in lithium-ion battery design
  • 2 or more years’ experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with requirements management tools

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships and coach team members, and work with customers and suppliers to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Strong understanding of battery systems, battery cooling, and the integration of such a system within a vehicle
  • Familiar with battery development process for EV/HEV applications
  • Able to translate vehicle system requirements to the battery cell and system requirements
  • Knowledge of the vehicle powertrain and vehicle architecture
  • Strong understanding of how vehicle level requirements for performance, range, durability drive, battery energy, power, and durability specifications



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or other related discipline with experience
