John Deere is seeking engineers to help develop lithium-ion battery solutions.  John Deere sees demand growing for batteries as a sole- or hybrid-propulsion system for vehicles. Products in Deere’s portfolio such as turf equipment, compact utility tractors, small tractors, compact construction, and road building equipment could rely solely on batteries as a primary power source. Deere intends to continue to invest in and develop technologies to innovate, deliver value to customers, and work towards a future with zero emissions propulsion systems.

Your Responsibilities


As a Staff Battery Development Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Cary, NC, you will….


  • Lead a team responsible for the design and development of battery packs, components, and subsystems.
  • Coordinate the execution of multiple battery development projects with teams and suppliers around the world.
  • Provide technical guidance for the development of innovative battery solutions across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Collaborate with all product divisions to align battery development activities with the requirements of the vehicles.

What Skills You Need


  • 8 or more years’ experience in complex product development
  • 5 or more years’ experience in design and validation of lithium-ion batteries
  • 4 or more years’ experience in battery system integration into electric vehicle applications
  • 3 or more years’ demonstrated experience leading engineering design efforts and collaborating successfully with diverse functional groups and engineering teams

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Understanding of energy storage (Lithium-Ion Battery) technology trends, vehicle industry application trends, battery management system technology trends, and lithium-ion battery test approaches.
  • Experience in leading complex engineering projects.
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, and field support of energy storage systems (Lithium-Ion Batteries) including diagnosing and troubleshooting battery system failures.
  • Experience with battery thermal management systems
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery testing.
  • Experience with construction, agricultural, and turf vehicle engineering



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related discipline with experience
