Your Responsibilities


As a Senior Staff Software Engineer for John Deere located in  Chicago, IL, ADV Lab Milan, IL or Des Moines, IA  you will...

  • We are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience of being a developer at John Deere.  We build or provide solutions that make it easier to practice DevOps practices, use proper security practices, or build quality into the applications
  • We are technical evangelists, when we see an opportunity to help grow John Deere’s technical journey, we will push that forward
  • We exist to find the constraints that are in our organization and alleviate them through our own good software development practices
  • Solving problems, writing code, setting up infrastructure, following best practices are work this team sees daily

What Skills You Need


  • Experience as a developer writing code for various applications
  • Experience using DevOps or eXtreme Programming practices as part of development
  • Experience in owning the operation and infrastructure of applications
  • Experience using cloud solution providers (like AWS, Azure, etc) to host your application and services
  • Experience with consuming and writing APIs
  • Experience leading work with the ability to design solutions for a diverse set of customers
  • Strong Communication Skills

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience with several different DevOps type of tooling (Ex: Drone, Github & Github Actions, Azure DevOps, Docker, Terraform, Puppet, Black duck, Artifactory, Sonar, Linting Tools, etc.)
  • Experience with several different languages (Ex: Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, Scala, etc)
  • Experience with using containers for orchestration of servers (Ex: Docker, ECS/K8s, etc)
  • Tool and/or Server Administration experience
  • Unix/Linux administration experience
  • Experience with contributing to open-source platforms/tools
  • Ability to lead through servant leadership
  • Experience mentoring others on good technical practices and design



Ideally, you will have a degree in the following or equivalent related work experience:


  • Bachelors degree in a technical field
