Your Responsibilities


As a Sr. Data Engineer at John Deere in Chicago, IL, you will establish a workforce data lake that facilitates access, quality, and automation of raw data. The data lake serves as the single source for a structured data warehouse and HR reporting & analytics needs. This technical solution will enable the visibility of up-to-date workforce data to global leadership.


  • Participate in discussions with the HR Technology Scrum and Product teams to develop technical solutions to satisfy business requirements to support John Deere’s global workforce
  • Deliver, operate, and optimize data systems and integrations using Data Management and ETL techniques
  • Develop, code, configure, and test SaaS system extensions as well as internally developed programs and integrations
  • Utilize automation techniques to digitalize tasks in situations where system integrations are not possible
  • Follow industry standard software design methodology for development and documentation
  • Mentor other technical resources on the team

What Skills You Need


  • 7+ Years of experience with data extraction, transformation, and ingestion
  • 7+ Years of experience with Python,R or java used in complex software solutions
  • 4+ Years of experience using Enterprise Data Lake, Databricks, or other Spark/Big Data platforms.
  • 6+ years of experience with AWS or Azure technologies
  • Strong, interpersonal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven experience working in a team environment and mentoring team members

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience in Data Visualization and Dashboarding using PowerBI and Tableau
  • Experience creating strategies to leverage existing SaaS APIs to extract data for use in other systems
  • Ability to communicate complex data insights in a manner which is clearly understandable by the business partners
  • Experience with DevOps including TDD


  • Bachelors Degree in a Technology related area or 10 years working in a related field
