Your Responsibilities

As a Robotics Software Engineer of Automation & Autonomy Solutions, for the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG-Urbandale), you will be a perception common feature technical lead for software embedded solutions interfacing to the vehicle system to support robotic products that use perception sensing and cameras to utilize machine learning or image processing.  In addition, you will:

  • Be a lead robotics core software engineer for supporting and integrating new image processing features that are intended to be re-used and leveraged by several application project opportunities. This role involves solution design and software implementation for various applications that utilize image processing, controls, and machine learning.
  • Provide overall engineering direction, priority, best practices, and software quality reviews for other ISG software developers.
  • Ensure that the processes are understood and are being executed on Product Delivery Programs as expected.
  • Provide technical leadership to employees within the team.
  • Assist in the resolution of complex technical issues within the department as they arise.
  • Maintain a high-performance work culture.

 

What Skills You Need

  • Two or more years of experience developing and testing C or C++ software algorithms for embedded solutions.
  • Two or more years of experience working with Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Stereo solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 25% (both domestic or internationally)

 

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience and expertise with C++ (including modern C++ syntax, patterns, practices) (High)
  • Experience with Computer Vision Machine Learning software development (High)
  • Experience developing Linux software applications (High)
  • Experience or training with multi-threaded systems (High)
  • Experience with Camera to Vehicle Calibration Methods or Stereo from AI Methods (High)
  • Experience in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash, etc.)  (Med)
  • Experience with UDP, TCP/IP, CAN networking communication protocols (Med)
  • Experience with Functional Safety Software Designs and Safe Operating Systems such as Safe RTOS (Low)
  • Experience using Qt, OpenGL, SQL, or GIS software libraries (Low)
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and software test automation (Low)
  • Experience with Agile software development processes (Low)

 

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Science or Technology related discipline   (Required)
