Your Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Engineer – Weld for John Deere Dubuque Works you will be responsible for Welding Engineering & production support functions of fabrication. The position of Weld Engineer requires a broad range of knowledge of weld engineering, design, industrial engineering methods, manufacturing processes, and methods/efficiency analysis associated with manufacturing of structural weldment components. In addition, you will:

  • Have responsibilities that include robot programming, project management from design concept to production and production floor support including establishing facility layout, methods of operation, efficient material flow, balancing work between cells, setting time standards and supporting the maintenance and operation of this process
  • Work with production engineers, supervisors, plant engineering and the production floor and translate these inputs into a production process that meets factory goals for safety, cost, quality and productivity
  • Write process plans, evaluate operating methods, manufacturing costing and establish methods for paying the operators
  • Work effectively with salaried and wage personnel in a team environment


****This is primarily a first shift position but there will be periods of time when the individual will be

required to work off shifts and Saturdays to perform robot programming without production interference***

What Skills You Need

  • Understanding of Industrial Engineering and Weld Engineering methods and principles
  • Demonstration of the ability to be an effective member of a multi-disciplined, cross functional team
  • Project management skills and demonstrated execution skills
  • Demonstration of an understanding of Quality Planning and Control
  • Self-starter with the ability to execute a variety of tasks with little supervision
  • Analytical skills in determining welding related cycle times and costs.
  • Hands on skill in programming robotic welding systems and manual welding

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in programming Fanuc robotic welding systems.
  • Analytical skills in Statistical Process Control for dimensional integrity of weldments
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and/or distribution processes, quality, tooling, tool design, total preventative maintenance, and facilities
  • Working knowledge of W-Planner
  • Experience in lean manufacturing.
  • Experience with SAP and PDM (Product Data Management)
  • Skill in using computer aided design and/or engineering tools, specifically Creo Parametric
  • Experience with shop floor manufacturing, incentive pay systems and work measurement
  • Knowledge of standard quality tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), Root Cause Analysis and Statistics


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology.
