This position is eligible for a partial telework schedule arrangement at the present time.  The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.

 

This position may be located in Moline, IL , or Ankeny, IA. per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.

Your Responsibilities

 

As a Staff Engineer of Technology Development for John Deere  you will lead exciting future technology development and innovation of products.  Located in Moline, IL or Ankeny, IA, you will engage with highly professional engineering teams to strategize for our John Deere Crop Care market.

 

Additionally you will....

 

  •  Pair with a Product Manager, co-lead an empowered team of engineers from our product lines, production systems & Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) to prioritize opportunities, identify solutions, develop, and demonstrate technology capabilities and prepare for transition to a Product Delivery Process (PDP) or Continuous Improvement (CI) delivery team.
  • Lead specific projects to understand a market opportunity, develop solution concepts, weigh the tradeoffs, choose a concept, make architecture decisions, identify technology gaps, and create a project proposal
  • Lead specific projects to develop a particular technology by working with engineers from across the organization to design the system, simulate, build & demonstrate in the lab and in field conditions
  • Work with product family engineering, product management, program management & finance to construct a project plan, project opportunity documentation and transition plan to a product delivery team

What Skills You Need

 

  • Seven or more years commercial experience in product development or manufacturing field
  • Five or more years of experience developing relevant technologies and products
  • Must be able to develop, manage, and communicate information in a clear and organized manner, including managing stakeholder relationships
  • Must be interested in developing a deep understanding of agriculture systems and farming practices and develop technology to solve customer problems
  • Must be able to manage cross-functional team performance to achieve results and identify and resolve conflicts.  Also, must be able to analyze internal and external influences on individual and team performance and morale, and take actions to improve effectiveness
  • Must be able to work with only limited guidance in line with a broad plan, budget, and strategy

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Seven or more years of experience working in agriculture industry
  • Experience developing planting systems, particularly soil engaging systems or seed & fertilizer metering
  • Systems engineering education and experience
  • Experience leading product or technology development teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Agriculture or equivalent relevant work experience.
