Your Responsibilities


As a Staff Software Engineer in the John Deere Order Management (OM) program located in Johnston, IA, you will get the opportunity to work on a large-scale global web application in a Fortune 500 company that is regularly ranked among the best companies to work for in the country. This position will be on the Order Management-John Deere Financial Wholesale Financing Service team which has been among the first in the company to adopt the new Global IT Agile Operating Model.


This software engineer should have senior level experience working on a product team; supporting product design through planning, writing, and testing code to deliver functionality for the products it supports. Applicants should be passionate about quality and technical engineering practices such as TDD and CI/CD, and have foundational experience with object-oriented design patterns.This position is on a team that is fully stacked with professional developers with Java/Spring, UI/JavaScript/React, or SAP ABAP experience; as such, we are looking for the best software engineer possessing a primary focus in any of those 3 areas, but with a desire and aptitude to expand their experience into the other technologies.   • Create, drive, and deliver technically focused initiatives with multi-team impact. Design and develop reusable, scalable, resilient solutions and can do so independently or with others.
  • Collaborate and partner with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Engineering managers and engineers to build solutions that further the engineering roadmap of the product.
  • Be the technical leader of highly complex systems that cross multiple products and product families - identifying and solving complex support issues, identifying trends, and addressing root causes through resilient solutions to the problems.
  • Evaluate and implement design solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance of software applications.
  • Be a technical coach that pairs, mentors, and coaches team members within the product team to improve the technology proficiency of the team.


What Skills You Need


  • 7+ yrs of experience with software engineering principles can apply the information to complex situations, solve complex problems, develop new applications, and provide support for other practitioners.
  • 7+ yrs of Technical leadership in design and implementation of one or more of:
    • Java/Spring
    • SAP OO ABAP (ALE/IDOC’s/Proxies, CDS Views, HANA Views, FPM, Web Dynpro, OData, NW Gateway, POL)
    • HTML5, Fiori UI5, or equivalent front-end language leveraging responsive web application design
    • JavaScript UI applications with React.js, jQuery, Angular.js or front-end library equivalent
  • 4+ yrs of experience leveraging DevSecOps and lean development principles like Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, with tools such as GitHub and Jenkins.
  • 4+ yrs of rigorous execution of TDD and software test automation, with Unit Testing Frameworks: Junit, Mockito, ABAP Unit, Cucumber, Cypress, etc.
  • 5-7 yrs of experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment.

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Capable of communicating and collaborating with both technical team and business partners to understand business needs and articulate technical solutions to end-users.
  • Highly skilled in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Working understanding of cloud development with platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Working understanding of SAP Banking Services and/or SAP Bank Analyzer.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and coaching other developers.



Ideally, you will have a degree in the following or equivalent related work experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) or Engineering


  • 8-10 years of demonstrated hands-on software engineering skills
