Function: Manufacturing Engineering
Title: Packaging Operations Part-Time Student - Milan, IL - 51867 

Your Responsibilities

  • Define the packaging specification for each new part delivered by suppliers and factories to John Deere PDC via XPAC; making revisions as necessary for current parts. 
  • Measure and weigh the part, review the preservative, paint, etc. and determine the appropriate packaging solution - entering the data into the system. Issue an outbound move tag for the load with the packaging spec assigned. Address the next part in the queue.
  • Participate in small projects involving data analysis, report generation, application development, and scripting to automate processes, improve quality, reduce costs, and better deliver to expectations.

  • Desire to work on the warehouse floor (warm in the summer; cool in the winter) and willing to get dirty daily as we handle parts with oil/preservative on them.

  • Driven to better self and support those around you.
  • Pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering, Operations Mgt, Computer Science, Math, Business Administration, or similar. MBAs and other degrees would also be considered.
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at a local university
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Graduation date of May 2020 or later  
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
  • 16 - 20 hours/week during the academic year
  • 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester

A strong candidate will also have

  • Awareness of John Deere: the business as a whole, our machines, and our parts
  • Engineering or Mechanical background/experience of some sort (thru school or otherwise)
  • Data Analysis, reporting, and/or application development experience (thru school or otherwise)
  • Excel (pivot tables, functions/formulas, filters, etc.) is our primary tool outside of the master system
  • VBA, Access, SQL, and/or SAS experience would be a bonus
