Your Responsibilities


John Deere’s Global Information Security team is seeking a talented Software Engineer - Security to drive application security development. In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of a team that is on the cutting edge of application security tools and technology. The Security by Design team sets the security engineering standards for John Deere’s entire application portfolio, participates in vendor new technology POC initiatives, and partners with the software engineering community to design and deploy secure code. As a Software Engineer for the Security by Design team at John Deere, you will get the opportunity to secure mission critical applications, code and products in a Fortune 500 company that is regularly ranked among the best companies to work for.



In addition, you will;

  • Design, build and deploy automated technology that is used to ensure the secure coding across John Deere’s application portfolio
  • Collaborate with software development specialists to identify and remediate complex code security flaws and implement solutions to enhance the developer experience and capabilities in this space
  • Support and enhance existing Security by Design tools, such as Veracode, Jerboa, Bridgecrew, WhiteSource, Onapsis and Secure Code Warrior to improve flaw detection and remediation capabilities
  • Support scrum team procedures by ensuring strong software development practices: TDD, resiliency, etc. are a standard part of the team’s work
  • Work as an active member of the Security-by-Design scrum team

What Skills You Need

  • 4 or more years of experience with design, development, testing, and integration of software solutions in a coding language
  • 1 or more years of experience with cloud-related technologies
  • Experience in coaching and teaching others
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment
  • Experience working with Test Driven Development and Unit Test Frameworks
  • Experience using DevSecOps and lean development principles such as Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery Working

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Hands-on experience with Python
  • Experience with version control tools (GitHub)
  • Experience with pipeline deployment best practices and scanning
  • Performance testing/tuning experience
  • Working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10, and the practical application in the detection and remediation of these vulnerabilities.
  • Experience automating security testing tools


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Software Engineering, Computer Science or Cyber Security discipline
