Title: Aftertreatment Hardware Development Engineer - 77651 

Onsite/Remote: Onsite Position 

Your Responsibilities


As a Product Engineer for Aftertreatment Hardware Development  for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will develop diesel engine aftertreatment hardware and calibrations to meet existing and future emissions regulations and customer application requirements.

In addition, you will:


  • Plan, coordinate, and execute test plans to complete development activities related to the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and reagent decomposition systems
  • Serve as technical point of contact for suppliers through the component development process, including leading regular meetings and maintaining documentation/open issues list
  • Develop and maintain component requirements documents for area of responsibility
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with test lab personnel and other engine functional groups including controls, engine design and development, and applications
  • Independently analyze test data, create, and present summary and conclusion of results and bring recommended course of action
  • Utilize simulation tools for aftertreatment development, calibration, and verification activities to augment and enhance physical testing activities
  • Contribute to discussions of potential concepts to meet future emissions regulations
  • Support PV&V activities for aftertreatment performance, engine calibration and durability testing, vehicle functional mules, and other general troubleshooting activities
  • Provide field support\troubleshooting for issues related to the DEF and reagent decomposition systems

What Skills You Need


  • 2 or more years of experience with engine or aftertreatment design and development, OR system/component development and qualification for on-road, off-road equipment, or similar industries
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve problems, think critically, and generate conclusions/solutions from technical data
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute action plans in situations of ambiguity
  • Proficient in the use of engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools
  • 1 or more years of experience with engine sensors or electronic hardware & controls

What Makes You Stand Out


  • 3 or more years of engine, aftertreatment or on-road/off-road component development experience
  • Experience with electronic engine and aftertreatment control systems and calibration techniques
  • Expert knowledge of DIAdem, MATLAB tools, or other data analysis software
  • Working knowledge of GT-Power (and GT-Suite in general)
  • Design for Six Sigma, Six Sigma, or Systems Engineering Experience



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
