Your Responsibilities


As a Power Unit Development Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will develop diesel engine performance calibrations to meet emissions regulations.  In addition, you will...



  • Support engine and aftertreatment controls and component specification and development (combustion system, fuel system, air system, aftertreatment etc.)
  • Manage a Performance & Emissions test cell, providing clear work direction for the test cell operators, coordinating test schedules and experiments, and timely resolving issues
  • Independently analyze data, create and present summary, and convey recommended conclusion or course of action in a timely fashion
  • Use simulation and modeling techniques to reduce dependence upon physical resources for project advancement

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences)


  • Knowledge of engine and/or aftertreatment functionality
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis and decision making
  • Demonstrated skills in technical communication
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible in schedule to work off-shift hours, on occasion to support testing

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)


  • Experience in performance and emissions calibration and development of heavy-duty diesel engines or aftertreatment
  • Experience using engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools 
  • Knowledge of diesel engines emissions control technologies and emissions regulations 
  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques
  • User experience with GT-Power
  • User experience with National Instruments Diadem analysis software
  • User experience with Matlab and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following: 


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
