Your Responsibilities

 

As a Sr. Combustion Engineer for JDPS located in Waterloo, IA, you will lead testing and support development of Compression Ignition combustion technologies using a combination of modeling work and test work. In addition, you will...
 

  • Define combustion system requirements and contribute definition of component requirements including interface specifications. 
  • Contribute to new design concepts, advanced test methods, process improvements, and measurement capabilities.
  • Communicate results of completed work to the engine engineering community and engage functional area experts to coordinate testing that supports model capability development.
  • Ensure project results are documented including trade-off analysis, processes, conclusions, system requirements, and maintain database of solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external projects, and ensure critical knowledge is captured and shared.

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences)

    

  • Technical understanding of combustion, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and modeling techniques.
  • Technical understanding of diesel engine performance and emissions characteristics 
  • Strong understanding of combustion system development, analysis, and measurement techniques
  • Practical experience testing Diesel engines: development, troubleshooting, dynamometer test laboratory hardware, and emission measurement equipment. 
  • Basic understanding of diesel aftertreatment systems and their interaction with engine performance. 
  • Experience in applying Design of Experiments and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Working understanding of GT-Power, Matlab, Simulink, and combustion analysis tool sets. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas to coworkers and provide testing direction to test engineers & dyno operators 
  • Ability to organize test plans, procure parts for testing, and complete data analysis 
  • Ability to clearly present results, conclusions, and recommendations

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)

 

  • 5 years of Diesel engine development or performance & emissions experience
  • Prior experience in conducting single cylinder engine experiments for combustion development 

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following: 

 

  • MS degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or physics.
