Your Responsibilities


As a Senior Analysis Engineer, Romax for John Deere located in Waterloo, Iowa, you will collaborate on the resolution of difficult technical issues, providing technical leadership to the team regarding aspects of gear & bearing life, and coordinate analysis activities with the broad scope of the complete project. In addition, you will:


  • Need to think creatively and implement innovative solutions to complex system-level challenges.
  • Develop improved processes to promote engineering efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide consultation to Drivetrain engineers in Waterloo and other units for gear & bearing system modeling.
  • Coach members of our international teams located at other global units (such as Germany and India).

What Skills You Need


  • 8 or more years of experience in gearbox system modeling for durability, with emphasis on gears and rolling element bearings.
  • 5 or more years of experience with correlating simulation results with physical testing of drivetrain components and systems.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and integrate with other functional teams.
  • Ability and willingness to work off-shift to enable communication with global teams, as needed.

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience with drivetrain component design, particularly rolling element bearings, parallel axis gears, epicyclic gears, bevel gears, and splines.
  • Experience developing gearbox system models for durability in a product development environment.
  • Experience working in the agricultural or off-road industry.
  • Experience with Romax, Transmission3D, and Load Distribution Program (LDP) software packages.
  • Experience using finite element software.
  • Familiarity with the principles of tribology, contact mechanics, and rolling contact fatigue.



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • PhD in Engineering, highly desired.
