The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

 

As a Communications - Part-Time Student - Ames for John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group located in Ames, IA, you will...

 

  • Develop employee engagement communications | Coordinates and integrates various communication media to share business-related information with unit employees to ensure understanding of business goals and objectives.
  • Plan, organize, and execute branded events in coordination with site leaders and university | Collaborate with Deere and ISU parties to ensure aspects of event are aligned with brand expectations.
  • Utilize existing tools, applications, and technology to develop volunteer sign-ups | Organize communications and sign-up requirements for volunteer recruiting activities at ISU, including volunteer outings and outreach events.
  • Develop relationship with university and research park stakeholders | Identify key contacts in the research park and university to strengthen relationships and tell the John Deere story within the community.
  • Monitor and update digital signage | Design of new slides and working with various departments to update regular features, such as the employee milestones, training classes being offered, and employee events.
  • Provide graphic design development and support | Works with Communication Specialist on graphics needed to help employees understand our robust strategic initiatives and employee events. 
  • Prepares unit communications | Develops content with guidance from Communications Specialist

What Skills You Need

 

  • Be creative and love working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
  • Be willing to roll up your sleeves, build solid relationships and work autonomously
  • Works with multiple media such as video, design, print
  • Beginner to intermediate understanding of Adobe products such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Premiere Rush
  • Ability to use standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office, plus internet and intranet functions 
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good interpersonal and team communication skills 
  • Skills in planning, organizing and deploying projects
  • 12 - 20 hours/week during the academic year 
  • 30 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Pursuing a four-year college degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism/Mass Communication, Graphic Design or Marketing; others may apply
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at an accredited local university
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Graduation date of December 2025 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
