Title: Dynamic Systems Modeling (DSM) Engineer - 2025036

Onsite/Remote: Onsite Position

 

Your Responsibilities

 

As a Dynamic Systems Modeling (DSM) Engineer for John Deere in Dubuque, IA, you will:

 

  • Provide modeling support to a product line within the construction product portfolio;
  • Identify and advocate for early design integration, delivering the right virtual model with the right fidelity at the right time;
  • Collaborate with construction Dynamic Systems Modeling (DSM) engineers to integrate and improve common library toolsets, workflows, and processes;
  • Provide direct analytical support to primary product line and auxiliary support to other product-lines, as required;
  • Lead the development of physics-based simulation models and controls algorithms (using Model Based System Development methodology) to support all stages of virtual verification from Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), Processor-in-the-Loop (PiL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), to Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL) performance testing that drives product design decisions;
  • Collaborate with product design teams to define continuous improvement opportunities, expand virtual test capability, and correlate simulation with physical test results;
  • and develop a growing understanding of product function, customer application, and machine operation.
  • Up to 20% domestic travel required. Must live within normal commuting distance of the worksite. Up to 20% remote work allowed.

 

What Skills You Need

  • 2 years of experience in proficiency in developing and implementing physics-based modeling and controls algorithms for motor grader vehicles to enhance performance and efficiency
  • 2 years of experience in using MATLAB, Simscape, and Simulink for comprehensive simulation and analysis of complex mechanical systems
  • 2 years of experience in knowledge of advanced automation and grade management systems used in motor graders
  • 2 years of experience in apply engineering experience in controls, hydraulics, powertrain, and/or structural linkages
  • 2 years of experience in demonstrate knowledge utilizing advanced mathematical concepts to solve engineering problems related to design, performance optimization, and system control
  • 2 years of experience in capabilities in conducting statistical analysis to extract insights from field data and virtual models, correlate responses, and maximize model accuracy for continuous system improvement
  • 2 years of experience in knowledge of earthmoving equipment production systems, customer applications, and experience operating construction equipment
  • 2 years of experience in authoring technical design guidelines, control theory documentation, or research papers

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus 2 years related experience.
