Your Responsibilities

As a Lead Verification Champion for the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) located in Silvis, Illinois, you will:

  • Lead the software verification strategy for the scope of features being delivered by our global team for our state-of-the-art Crop Harvesting Front-End Equipment.
  • Collaborate with software development teams and test automation engineers to create and support the execution of the software verification test plans in the MiL/SiL (virtual), HiL (subsystem simulator), and ViL (Combines/Headers) environments.
  • Use a deep understanding of the software solution being implemented as well as understanding customer needs to ensure software meets those needs.
  • Define and support the execution of the appropriate level of regression testing required for each software release.
  • Establish and track software test metrics (requirements to test case coverage, test case data, test results, defects found, defect escapes, etc.) in conjunction with the Software Systems PVV test team.

Team / Technical Lead:

  • Lead Front-End Equipment test planning with the global team of Verification Champions (Silvis-IL, Urbandale-IA, Germany, India, Brazil, Mexico, and more) to establish a holistic verification plan.
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert for testing and functionality of Front-End Equipment.
  • Assist and guide new team members with testing practices, knowledge on tested subsystem, toolsets, and verification processes.

What Skills You Need (Required skills/experiences)

  • 3+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and/or integrating software and electrical systems within SIL, HIL, and VIL environments.
  • 3+ years working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
  • 3+ years of experience with J1939 CAN protocol or CAN tools used for logging and the analysis of vehicle networks.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills to break down, solve, and convey complex features and issues to clearly create and document a path to resolution.
  • Passion and demonstrated ability to understand the details of how software is written, implemented, as well as the customers’ use our software products.
  • Willingness to perform on-machine testing at John Deere and cooperator test sites.
  • Product design and/or test experience within the Agriculture, Construction, Forestry, Off-Road Equipment, or related industries.

What Makes You Stand Out (Desired skills/experiences)

  • Experience with on-machine testing at John Deere or customer test sites.
  • Practical working experience with test case automation tools (e.g. ECU-Test, etc.).
  • Experience using scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) Foundation Certification


Ideally you will have a degree OR equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural, Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, a related discipline.
