Your Responsibilities

 

As a Senior Platform Engineer for John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group located in Urbandale, IA, you will...

 

  • Work on supporting the Operations Center product with highly available, multi-region compute and observability solutions in order to increase reliability and sustainability for our agriculture and construction customers.
  • Designing, documenting, and validating highly available, multi-region internal developer platforms and observability pipelines.  
  • Partnering with application owners, multi-region resiliency, SRE, security, and business stakeholders to translate business impact into highly available, ergonomic solutions supporting the organization.

What Skills You Need

 

  • 3 or more years of experience with many programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go, or similar languages.       
  • 3 or more years of experience in designing developer container platform architectures and tools such as Kubernetes, EKS, and Docker.
  • 2 or more years of experience with building and managing applications and infrastructure in AWS with Terraform or CloudFormation.            
  • 2 or more years of experience with Continuous Integration and/or build pipeline automation.
  • 1 or more years of experience in Site Reliability best practices and/or techniques.
  • 1 or more years of experience in Operations Center systems and reliability. 

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Strong communications skills: Experience working with cross-functional teams, and ability to translate business impact into technical objectives and solutions while communicating status to stakeholders.
  • Experience with testing and SRE practices: fault tolerance testing, chaos engineering, SLO/SLO/error‑budget familiarity.
  • Experience leveraging multi-region AWS services (RDS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, S3, etc.)
  • Experience supporting a highly compliant Kubernetes environment critical to business operations, such as OpenShift, GKE, AKS, or EKS
  • Experience with observability pipeline solutions (ELK stack, Vector, Datadog, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, etc.)
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, MIS, or other IT related discipline 

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelors degree in either Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, MIS, or other IT related discipline
