Your Responsibilities
As a Machining Mechanical Engineer, Heat Treatment for John Deere Waterloo Works located in Waterloo, Iowa you will:
- Lead quality planning activities including process development, equipment process monitoring and control, and sample and product metallurgical inspection for the batch carburizing/hardening operations
- Work with maintenance, operations, and/or design engineering daily to communicate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to processes, equipment, or individual components
- Innovate and implement process improvement ideas in support of cost reduction, quality, delivery, and safety initiatives
- Implement heat treat processes for new components in support of new product development programs and develop routings, layouts, tools, costs, standards, and quality plans as required

What Skills You Need
- 1+ years of shop floor manufacturing engineering experience, or relevant college degree
- 6 months of experience with the heat treatment of ferrous metals, or relevant college degree
- 1+ years of strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills, or relevant college degree
- 6 months of experience of manufacturing processes, including furnace carburizing, hardening and tempering
- 6 months of experience in manufacturing process development and equipment/process troubleshooting
What Makes You Stand Out
- 1+ years communicating and collaborating well in a team environment
- 1+ years with a working knowledge of steelmaking and steel-forming processes
- 1+ years of experience with project management, planning and execution
- 1+ years with a working knowledge of engineering tools, systems, and databases (SAP, Microsoft Office)
- 6 months with a working knowledge of component part tolerancing, gaging, and blueprint reading
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering
