Your Responsibilities


As a Supplier Quality Engineer for John Deere Waterloo Works located in Waterloo, IA, you will perform purchased part quality planning in the respective commodity for Continuous Improvement, supplier change requests (SCRs), temporary sourcing (farm-outs and spot buys), resourcing, cost reduction, and outsourcing. In addition, you will:


  • Execute Design Process and Assembly Reviews (DPARs) and print reviews including Quality Plan Level (QPL) assignment verification, definition of production and process key characteristics, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plan verification, and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP). 
  • Lead collaboration between the factory and suppliers to urgently resolve non-conformances through risk-based decision making, developing inspection documents and approving rework processes to eliminate risk of repeat occurrence.
  • Identify quality risks, escalate issues, determine root cause, drive corrective action and prevent recurrence with suppliers for their non-conformances using analytical rigor, thorough documentation and supplier quality processes.
  • Conduct supplier quality audits, process verification audits and lead Quality Improvement teams to drive supplier improvements and verify capabilities.

What Skills You Need


  • Experience with quality management, manufacturing processes and/or tooling and gage design. 
  • Strong ability to collaborate and work well with a team.
  • Demonstrated project management skills including effective facilitation, communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience interpreting and applying part drawings and engineering standards.
  • Working knowledge of standard quality management principles and tools (such as FMEA, SPC, Root Cause, Control Plans, Gauge R&R, MSA and Capability Studies).
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and/or internationally, based on business needs.

What Makes You Stand Out


  • Work experience with Paint or Electronics.
  • Previous experience building relationships and influencing suppliers.
  • ASQ certifications such as CSQP, CQE, CSSGB, and/or CSSBB.
  • Certified Auditor (JDS G223 or PVA).
  • Experience in Data & Analytics and Smart Connected Factory tools.
  • Leadership and participation in an Employee Resource Group or Community Program.



Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in a Manufacturing Technology or Engineering discipline.
