Your Responsibilities

 

As an Embedded Software Engineer for John Deere's Construction & Forestry (C&F) division in Dubuque, IA you will:

 

  • Develop and maintain embedded software for machine control systems
  • Deliver software features, diagnostics, and technical documentation
  • Identify and resolve software defects through testing and validation
  • Integrate software solutions with cross-functional teams to support product delivery

What Skills You Need

 

  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming and fundamental software engineering principles for embedded systems
  • Understanding of real-time embedded systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software interactions
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication networks and diagnostics, including CAN/J1939 protocols
  • Ability to debug, test, and resolve software defects using structured problem-solving and software validation practices
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with systems, product design, validation, and vehicle engineering teams
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 10%

 

 

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Hands-on experience developing embedded systems
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate software with hardware, sensors, controllers, or communication networks
  • CAN, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth communications experience
  • Experience or understanding of best practices for source control (e.g. GitHub, etc.)
  • Strong curiosity and learning agility with a track record of quickly mastering new technologies, tools, and development environments
  • Experience with technology solutions used in the construction industry, such as grade control and GNSS, telematics, etc.
  • Familiarity with operating Construction, Forestry, or Ag off-road equipment

 

 

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
