Your Responsibilities
As an Embedded Software Engineer for John Deere's Construction & Forestry (C&F) division in Dubuque, IA you will:
- Develop and maintain embedded software for machine control systems
- Deliver software features, diagnostics, and technical documentation
- Identify and resolve software defects through testing and validation
- Integrate software solutions with cross-functional teams to support product delivery

What Skills You Need
- Proficiency in C/C++ programming and fundamental software engineering principles for embedded systems
- Understanding of real-time embedded systems, microcontrollers, and hardware/software interactions
- Knowledge of vehicle communication networks and diagnostics, including CAN/J1939 protocols
- Ability to debug, test, and resolve software defects using structured problem-solving and software validation practices
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with systems, product design, validation, and vehicle engineering teams
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 10%
What Makes You Stand Out
- Hands-on experience developing embedded systems
- Demonstrated ability to integrate software with hardware, sensors, controllers, or communication networks
- CAN, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth communications experience
- Experience or understanding of best practices for source control (e.g. GitHub, etc.)
- Strong curiosity and learning agility with a track record of quickly mastering new technologies, tools, and development environments
- Experience with technology solutions used in the construction industry, such as grade control and GNSS, telematics, etc.
- Familiarity with operating Construction, Forestry, or Ag off-road equipment
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
