The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
An Electrification Part Time Student for John Deere Power Systems, located in Fargo, ND, supports product analysis, design, and/or testing activities for electric drive components and systems used on Deere vehicles. Specific activities vary by position but will include one or more of the following responsibilities:
- Electrification system and vehicle development inclusive of design, analysis, vehicle integration, and testing of electric drive systems consisting of batteries, inverters, motors, converters, and chargers to meet vehicle performance goals. This includes requirements, system concepting, vehicle integration and interfaces, lab testing of system performance, and vehicle testing of performance.
- Li-Ion battery development inclusive of design, analysis, and testing of cells, modules, BMS hardware, BMS software, pack level thermal and structural design, and cell aging modeling.
- Electric machine development inclusive of design, analysis, and testing of 250W – 200kW+ SPM and IPM electric motors, electromagnetic design, thermal design, high speed structural design, position sensing, and mechanical design.
This position is NOT available to students on immigration visas
What Skills You Need
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience testing electrical components using standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
- Familiarity with a symbolic programming language such as Simulink or LabView.
- Experience using modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink or circuit analysis software.
- Experience with electric machines, or inverters/converters/chargers, or Li-Ion batteries, or electric vehicle systems, or electric drive control systems.
- Minimum required cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. (3.4 or higher preferred)
- Enrolled in an engineering program at a BS, MS, or PhD level
- Graduation date of December 2026 or after
