Your Responsibilities

As a Software Design Engineer for ISG-R&MT located in Fargo, ND, you will be:

 

  • Implement software using proven programming techniques. Gather and format requirements directly from customers, create and review innovative software designs, and perform analysis and make recommendations and design decisions.
  • Perform detailed unit, integration, and systems verification and validation using software tools including emulators, debuggers, hardware in the loop and simulations.
  • Review documentation produced during the Product Development Lifecycle that is generated by other engineering groups and verify documentation is sufficient for product design. Generate support documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with other project team members to ensure the final product has compatible hardware and software that performs as specified in the product specifications.
  • Carry out inspections under the supervision of senior colleagues to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and make recommendations to senior colleagues on the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Create and maintain technical and/or user documentation to a high standard, and back up files to ensure instant recovery if problems occur.

What Skills You Need

 

  • Understanding of embedded software development.
  • Understanding of C and other programming languages.
  • Understanding of microcontroller operation and memory organization.
  • Understanding of compilers, linkers and locators.
  • Understanding of development and debugging tools (source level debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters, etc.).
  • Understand of microcontroller peripherals and systems (PWM outputs, boot loaders, A/D converters, watchdog timers, interrupt and trap functions, serial and parallel interfaces, etc.).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English).

  • Simulation and modeling tools (e.g MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Communication networks (e.g. CAN, Ethernet, LIN).

Education

 

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree
