Your Responsibilities
As a Factory Automation Engineer- GFPT & Smart Test Focus for Deere & Company World Headquarters located in Grovetown, GA, you will:
- Lead and support Global Factory Controller Programming (GFCP) using GFPT / GFPTx, ensuring correct controller software programming, configuration, and execution at factory stations
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Smart Test systems used for software and electrical testing of subassemblies and machinery, including pass/fail logic, calibration, and hardware interaction
- Support and maintain GFPT Admin Tool and Data Gathering Tool (DGT) to ensure accurate component data collection, traceability, and compliance during programming operations
- Design and update PLC, HMI, and PC‑based interfaces that integrate GFPT and Smart Test stations with shop‑floor equipment and controls
- Integrate GFPT and Smart Test systems with MES/SCADA platforms (e.g., JDAAT, Ignition, SAP‑MES) to support production execution, error handling, and manufacturing data flow
- Respond to production‑down and factory‑impaired events related to controller programming or Smart Test failures, coordinating rapid troubleshooting and recovery to minimize downtime
- Apply mistake‑proofing (poka‑yoke), standardization, and PFMEA‑driven controls to both programming and testing processes to ensure product configuration accuracy and repeatability

What Skills You Need
- Engineering background in Electrical, Controls, Computer, or Automation Engineering
- Hands‑on experience with GFPT / GFPTx and factory controller programming in a manufacturing environment
- Experience supporting or developing Smart Test systems, including test sequences, hardware interfaces (e.g., CAN), and factory calibrations
- Proficiency with PLC programming, PC‑based automation tools, and SQL databases supporting manufacturing systems
- Knowledge of MES/SCADA solutions (JDAAT, Ignition, SAP‑MES, AMES) and their interaction with programming and test stations
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a production environment
What Makes You Stand Out
- 3 or more years of experience in factory controller programming (GFPT/GFPTx) and/or Smart Test‑based manufacturing test systems
- Proven ability to support production launches, product changes, and software updates requiring tight integration between programming and testing
- Experience leading moderate‑to‑large automation or testing projects while maintaining production stability
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent related work experience
