Your Responsibilities
As an Engineer, Software Architecture for John Deere Product Engineering Center located in Waterloo, Iowa you will….
- Develop a deep understanding of software architecture, control logic, and customer use cases to ensure embedded software solutions meet requirements.
- Be a member of an agile product team alongside other software engineers to support basic product design by writing and testing code to deliver simple to complex functionality on a defined portion of the product it supports.
- Develop and support Software in the Loop development, plant models, and payload delivery for NGEC (Next Generation Engine Controls) software.
- Support internal vehicle partners in implementation of SiL into their test and development environments.
Your Responsibilities continued
- Develop and review NGEC application layer software
- Develop and review NGEC software architecture with a focus on reusability and abstraction
- Support key NGEC strategic projects that affect SW development or delivery
- This is an entry level role that is designed to learn, grow in competence, and develop the most basic capability needed to operate effectively in this role.
- Work and decisions are reviewed by supervisors or senior team members before implementation.

What Skills You Need
- Experience with simulation and test tools (Simulink Test, etc)
- Experience programming in languages such as: python, javascript, java, C, C++, C#, VBA
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills relevant to complex systems
- Demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities for new and innovative solutions
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
What Makes You Stand Out
- 1 or more years of embedded software development at John Deere
- 1 or more years of product development experience within heavy duty off-highway applications
- 1 or more years of experience with model-based software development using Matlab Simulink
- Experience with engine and/or aftertreatment control system development or calibration
- Experience with automotive diagnostic, communication, and calibration protocols
- Experience with Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), or Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) environments
- Knowledge of electronic circuits and components with the ability to read schematics and data sheets
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related area of study.
