Primary Location: United States (US) - North Dakota - Fargo
As a Factory Engineering Technician III at John Deere in Fargo, ND, you will:
Assist and support manufacturing processes, systems, and personnel throughout our manufacturing facilities. Quickly and effectively troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to minimize interruptions and downtime while focusing on sustaining quality output. Contribute to positioning our business unit to be cost effective by minimizing downtime, improving processes through Lean Manufacturing principles, keeping equipment calibrated and maintained, documenting systems and processes, and training others.
Job details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:
- Provide technical support to production teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues pertaining to assembly tools, equipment, processes, and products during manufacturing.
- Ability to take initiative to resolve issues quickly and effectively with little or no supervision.
- Support the installation, setup, wiring, programming, documentation, training, and maintenance of assembly and automation equipment (including but not limited to assembly build fixtures, torque tools, conveyor lines, PLCs, robots, etc.).
- Create/update MWI's and JDAAT programs, including labelling and final packaging.
- Possess an understanding of programmable logic controllers, networks, sensors/scanners/cameras, and configuring I/O devices for tying automated systems together.
- Directly support Manufacturing and Factory Automation Engineers, and other departments as requested, including coordination of prototype jobs and resources.
- Assist in the design, fabrication, and verification of production and prototype fixtures, jigs, and simple machines. Train operators on the use of fixtures, jigs, and simple machines.
- Act as the Engineering representative on the Final Assembly Continuous Improvement Teams driving Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity through proven Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Review and assist with all assembly line layout activities, including but not limited to: identifying waste, recommending improvements, implementing improvements and all physical equipment and bench moves.
- Assist with the development of labor standards, perform time studies and line balancing activities.
- Assist with development of final assembly processes, coordinate with different departments, and be actively involved during the early assembly processes at all locations.
- Create PO Req’s to order tools and supplies.
- Utilize Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint to effectively communicate information to stakeholders.
- Research assembly techniques, equipment, systems, and/or products.
- Support all efforts in maintaining ISO 9001 certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and Factory Automation/Manufacturing Engineers.
This is a first shift (day) position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have at least one of the following:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
- At least 3 years of manufacturing work experience
- A.S. in Electronics, a two-year technical diploma, or equivalent military certification, or equivalent work experience.
- At least three years of related experience in electronics, manufacturing, or engineering; including:
- Experience and understanding of manufacturing processes and electronic components.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting to identify root cause.
- Experience reading and utilizing technical schematics, drawings, and/or datasheets.
- Experience with manufacturing software systems and complex robot features.
- Experience with computers and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Ability and willingness to work 1st shift and potential overtime (including weekends).

- Current experience as a contingent worker in a similar role at John Deere Fargo demonstrating strong performance and attendance.
- Seven or more years of related experience in electronics, manufacturing, or engineering; including soldering with fine-pitch surface mount components.
